Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937) was an Italian Marxist philosopher, activist, and politician amongst many other things. After rising to leadership of the Communist Party of Italy (PCd’I) he was imprisoned under false charges by Mussolini’s fascist government and served 11 years in prison eventually succumbing to his horrendous conditions and treatment in 1937. Today Gramsci is remembered as a great Marxist thinker and revered as a martyr for his efforts to destroy fascism in Italy.
“The challenge of modernity is to live without illusions and without becoming disillusioned” ~Antonio Gramsci in his “Letters From Prison v.1”
